Community Auctions/Set-Up Volunteer

Are you looking for an out-of-the-ordinary volunteer experience that you can complete on your own time frame in the community? YESS recently partnered with Community Auctions to raise funds for our services and shelter. In exchange for helping set up, refresh, and tear down auction sites, YESS will receive a percentage of all sales. We're looking for volunteers to help us with the set-up, check-in, and tear-down processes. To learn more and apply, click here.

Safe Place Site Monitors

YESS is a Safe Place shelter, and accordingly, we need to check in annually with all the Safe Place locations in the Des Moines metropolitan area. There are over 120 sites we need to monitor before December 31, 2020, and we need your help! You can sign up for as many or as few sites as you'd like (though we recommend a minimum of 5). In an effort to protect the safety of all clients, staff, and visitors, some volunteer activities are suspended until further notice. Below opportunities will resume once we know it is safe to do so. Thank you for understanding!

Sharing your time and talents as a volunteer at YESS can make a huge impact in the lives of the children we serve. A variety of meaningful volunteer opportunities are available for individuals as well as groups and vary from one-time special events to serving on a regularly scheduled basis.

We are especially in need of volunteers who have experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Fitness and athletics
  • Dance, Zumba, or gymnastics
  • LEGO Club
  • Teaching life skills

  • Volunteer application (includes fingerprint background check & required TB test)
  • Interview and reference checks
  • Volunteer training/orientation

* While YESS acknowledges the benefits of peer-to-peer mentorship, we cannot allow volunteers under age 18 into the shelter due to licensing and confidentiality standards. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
